Jacinta Sajila Pamita

Jacinta Sajila Pamita is Maasai and comes from Laikipia, Kenya. She works as Programme Manager for Resilient Livelihoods and Healthy Ecosystems at IMPACT (Indigenous Movement for Peace Advancement and Conflict Transformation) Kenya, an initiative that works to advance the rights and self-determination of Indigenous communities in northern Kenya. A particular focus of her work is promoting the participation of women.

Climate change, shrinking grazing lands and a lack of investment are putting increasing pressure on pastoralist communities in Kenya. Jacinta Sajila Pamita, herself Maasai and working for IMPACT Kenya, calls for greater participation of Indigenous communities, more investment in locally led solutions and greater recognition of traditional knowledge. As she says, sustainable development begins when the people on the ground have a say in shaping it.
